Licenses How do I determine what CPE sponsors are approved? ANSWER: Please refer to the Texas State Board of Public Accountancy's Web site under “Search the Data Base” for a list of sponsors with approved course offerings. [ Back ]
ANSWER: Select “Check Your Status” on the Texas State Board of Public Accountancy's Web site. The Web site will show how many hours of CPE that you have taken and need to take before your next renewal period. [ Back ] Sponsors Why is it important for my organization to have a current sponsor registration with the Texas State Board of Public Accountancy? ANSWER: Effective Jan. 1, 2005 licensees will be referred to the State Board’s Web site to find a sponsor whose courses has been approved by the Board. Licensees will be instructed that courses taken from sponsors that do not appear on the Board’s approved sponsor list will not be given credit for fulfilling their mandatory CPE yearly obligation without applying for approval on a case by case basis. Who is exempt from the State Board's registration fee? ANSWER: Two main groups of sponsors are exempt from paying a registration fee; governmental entities (local, state and federal agencies) and those sponsors that are registered with the National Association of State Boards of Accountancy (NASBA). Other sponsors must apply to the Sponsor Review Program Committee for an exemption, along with documentation that their programs have been subject to review [ Back ]

What are the costs of becoming a sponsor? ANSWER: The registration fee associated with becoming or renewal of a current sponsor registration depends on the number of CPE courses offered. The definition of a individual course is one that has a separate syllabus without regard for the number of times the individual course is offered. The registration fee associated with a sponsor is as follows; 1-4 courses offered $ 750 per renewal period [ Back ]
How do one, two and four hour courses count in determining what amount of fees are required? ANSWER: Courses that are less than 8-hours can be accumulated together in blocks of 8-hours. An example of a sponsor that offers 16 courses consisting of (4) 1-hour, (6) 2-hour, and (4) 4-hour courses would result in a (4) 8-hour blocks and would require a $750 fee registration. [ Back ]
Why is a sponsor registration fee necessary? ANSWER: The Texas State Board of Public Accountancy studied sponsors and the courses they offer. As a result of the study, the Board created the Sponsor Review Program to ensure that CPE offered to CPAs is of the highest quality. The TSBPA determined a fee is necessary to reimburse it for the hiring of qualified course reviewers to assure licensees that courses being offered are of the highest quality. As a result of the Board’s study, the Sponsor Review Program was created to review courses offered. [ Back ]
What is the process for signing up as a sponsor? ANSWER: Entities that wish to become registered as sponsors to provide licensees CPE education courses, can download the sponsor application from the TSBPA’s Web site. Once the application is approved the sponsor will receive an Approval Certificate. [ Back ]
When will the sponsoring organization need to renew it registration? ANSWER: Each sponsoring organization must complete an annual registration with the Texas State Board of Public Accountancy to continue to have their courses accepted. Approximately six (6) weeks prior to the end of a registration period the sponsoring organization will receive an annual registration packet. This packet must be returned to the Board prior to the due date shown on the packet. Sponsors that do not respond to the Board in a timely fashion will be deleted from the list of approved sponsors. Reviewers Are sponsor reviewer positions full time? ANSWER: The sponsor reviewer position is not a full time position. [ Back ]
How does the sponsor reviewer program work? ANSWER: The Sponsor Review Program Committee reviews applicant’s information. Persons selected to become reviewers will sign a master contract which sets out the responsibilities and duties of a reviewer. Reviewers will be matched up with sponsor courses and will agree to a fixed price for an individual assignment. The normal period for said contract will coincide with the Board’s fiscal year (August 31) and renewed on an annual basis. [ Back ]
